POLICE in Bulawayo have busted a fake money syndicate and arrested three suspects after they were found in possession of fake US dollars which they had allegedly printed at a house in Cowdray Park suburb.
The three suspects are Obedience Muza (23), Nixon Matienga (33) and Liberty Madzivanyika (37).
Detectives established that the suspects used to work in cahoots with David Chikara who is popularly known as Guzhaz.
Guzhaz used to transport the trio during the commission of the crime.
Detectives received a tip-off that the trio were in possession of fake US dollars which they were using to buy goods in exchange of genuine US$ notes.
Police swooped on the trio at a local hotel where they were enjoying proceeds from the fake money syndicate.
The officers searched their rooms and managed to recover 26 batches of USD$50, 37 of US$20 and eight of US$10.
All the recovered fake money amounted to $2 120.
Further investigations also led to a recovery of a laptop and a printing machine which they used in photocopying and printing the money.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
โWe urge members of the public and the business community to be vigilant when carrying out financial transactions so as to avoid losing their hard earned money to criminals,” he warned.
