In a drama-filled incident a man who grabbed his uncle by his neck before he kicked and punched him heaved a sigh of relief as he was spared a jail sentence.
Mandlenkosi Nkomazana (40) of village 2 C in Insuza Matabeleland North province appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Evia Matura and pleaded guilty to the charge.ย
The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to serve nine months imprisonment. Three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour. The remaining six months were wholly suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service at Siganda Primary School.
Nkomazana apologised for his unbecoming behaviour and laid the blame on booze.
โIโm really sorry for what I did to my uncle Jeftas Dube. I was drunk and I acted under the influence of alcohol. May he kindly forgive me,โ he said.
A court heard that on the day in question Nkomazana returned home from a boozy night and was intoxicated. He went to his uncleโs homestead and banged on the door while shouting obscenities at him.
Nkomazana went up in his bid to attack him as he pushed the door open and stormed into his uncleโs bedroom and found him sleeping before he grabbed him by his neck, the court heard.
In a fit of rage the court heard he went haywire as he dragged him out of the bedroom into the yard. The court heard Nkomazana hurled insults at his uncle before he landed blows all over his body accusing him of being in the habit of shouting at him whenever he was from a booze.
He kicked Dube on the ribs and punched him all over the body.
A neighbour rushed to the scene and restrained Nkomazana from further attacking him. The following day Dube reported the matter to the police leading toย Nkomazanaโs arrest.
