Chindungwe hangs boots

Fungai Muderere

FORMER Highlanders, Chicken Inn and Hwange captain has hung his football boots to assume the role of kit manager at Castle Lager Premier Soccer League returnees, Hwange, B-Metro Sport has learnt.

The dreadlocked Tshabalala centre back called it a day at a time he is set to turn 41 on the ninth of September.

โ€œI can confirm that I have since assumed the role of kit manager. Football has its ups and downs but I must say I enjoyed being on the field of play,โ€ said Chindungwe who also once did duty for the senior national team together with likes of Charles Sibanda, Peter โ€œRioโ€ Moyo, Danny Phiri and Kudakwashe Mahachi just to mention but a few.

Chindungwe was one of instrumental players that helped Hwange return to the countryโ€™s elite football league after winning the Southern Region Division One league title at the end of last year.

Felix Chindungwe

He was one of Chipanganoโ€™s seasoned players that coaches Bongani Mafu and Try Ncube banked on alongside hard running Cannan Nkomo and gritty midfielder Thabani Goredema.

โ€œChindungwe has had his time but Iโ€™m happy that he was able to still find a home in the game. I wish him well,โ€ said Mafu, who also worked with Chindungwe at Bosso.
In 2017, in an interview with our sister paper Sunday News, Chindungwe insisted that he would not be heading for the dugout when his playing career ends as he felt the coaching seat was too hot.

He parted ways with Bosso in 2016 and he was named 2012 Soccer Star of the Year finalist together with Bosso goalminder Ariel Sibanda, ex-Highlanders midfielder Mthulisi Maphosa and Mahachi among others.

Chindungwe was offloaded by the Bulawayo giants as he could no longer cope with the high tempo football they had adopted according to then Bosso coach Erol Akbay.

He was released together with the now retired trio of goalkeeper Njabulo Nyoni, striker Kasimero Chimbadzwa, who saw little game time, as well as Julius Daudi.

Peter Muduhwa

Chindungwe lost his place in the starting line-up to star defender Peter Muduhwa, who has never looked back ever since he got his first team call-up.
Muduhwa is now the Bosso first vice captain.
