MBONGENI Brandon Masuku has been selected as one of the performers to represent Bulawayo at the Kwantuthu comedy Festival that will be held this week.

The festival meant to tackle all things comedy will be held from 25 to 28 October under the theme “It’s On”.

Masuku is one of the three comedians that was selected to represent Bulawayo in one of the festival’s events dubbed Bulawayo vs Harare Stand Up comedy.

“Kwantuthu comedy festival is my biggest performance to date, the lineup consists of the top comedians from Harare and Bulawayo.

“Representing Bulawayo is exciting and daunting but this gives me the confidence that I have what it takes, Bulawayo is known as the hub of arts. The Harare team is very talented indeed but so are we,” he said.

Masuku is currently working on a number of projects that entail his one-man show.

“I am currently in the writing phase for my one-man show and collaborating with other performers in the industry on the best ways that we can take to grow the comedy industry in Bulawayo from where our predecessors left it at,” said Masuku.

He started comedy in 2020 and has performed at a number of events like the fringe shows and power sessions.

“My first stand-up comedy performance was in 2020 during the lockdown at a small gathering by Group Therapy. However, I started taking comedy seriously this year and I have performed at Fringe comedy shows at Bulawayo theatre and the Power Sessions.

“I draw my inspiration from comedians like Trevor Noah and Kevin Hart, these give me the hope that l will be able to make it in comedy one day,” said Masuku.
