FOUR armed robbers are on the run after allegedly kidnapping a man and robbing him of US$100 tying him with a wire and dumping him in a bushy area in Figtree, Matabeleland South province.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident which is said to have happened this week on Tuesday.
โMembers of the public are warned to desist from boarding mushikashika (pirate Honda Fit) because most of them are used by robbers in carrying out their criminal activities. They should plan their journey on time and if they do not own a car they are strongly advised to board public transport such as Zupco or taxis,โ he said.
A source close to investigations said the 49-year-old victim boarded a Honda Fit at corner Plumtree Road and 15th Avenue intending to be dropped off near Alpha Steel in Donnington West industrial area.
โThe Honda Fit had four male occupants and were heading towards Figtree. When the car reached a bus stop near his workplace he requested to be dropped off. Sadly the driver increased the speed still heading towards Figtree.
โWhen they reached Figtree and were about a few metres from a tollgate they stopped the car and took out a machete and a knife while threatening to attack him. They robbed him of US$100 and a satchel,โ said the source.
The source said they tied him with a wire before they dragged him into a bushy area.
โThey dumped him in a bushy area before they sped off heading towards Plumtree. After a couple of hours he heard people passing by, he called out for help and they came to his rescue and untied him. He reported the incident to the police,โ said the source.
