Youth Empowerment Movement — a youth driven organisation is set to host its second edition of the youth explosion seminar under the theme “Invading Cities” on November 30 in Bulawayo.
The organisation was formed in 2019 by Adrean Sibanda (24) who was then a high school pupil with the objective to empower young minds and create a platform for them to showcase their talent.
In an interview, Sibanda said they were inspired to host the event because of their desire to build a community of young believers who will be independent and self-reliant.
He said the seminar was a continuation of the first one held early this year in January.
“In January we had our first seminar with more than 60 attendees which was not bad for our first edition. However, our goal with this one is to surpass that figure and reach out to more young people,” he said.
Sibanda said participants can expect mind-boggling games which will challenge them to think outside the box, poetry, interactive discussions, and dance performances, among others.
“These teachings will inspire and equip participants to live their lives boldly and make decisions that have a positive impact on their communities and families.
“By the end of the seminar we hope participants will have developed their critical thinking skills, deepened their understanding of life and will be better equipped to navigate the complexities of the world around them,” said Sibanda.
He highlighted the importance of such seminars in the lives of young people and the importance of taking part in them.
“In today’s world, young people are bombarded with negative influences, peer pressure and societal expectations that can lead them astray and seminars such as this one can provide a safe and supportive environment where young people can come together and share experiences.
“Also, by taking part in these seminars, young people can gain valuable insights, skills and knowledge that can help them navigate the challenge of growing up. They can connect with like-minded individuals and build meaningful relationships,” he said
Looking into the future, Sibanda said they will be hosting another seminar in January 2025 and plan to make these seminars a tradition in their organisation.
