All set for The Prodigals comedy show

Faith Ndlovu

COMEDY lovers are set to be treated to an early Christmas present full of joy and laughter as seasoned comedians Chik Aljoy, Ckanyiso Dat Guy, Zwe and Gen Lesley will take to the stage and provide therapy through laughter to the audience, at a show set to take place at Cotton Lounge on December 20.

Inspired by the Biblical story of the prodigal son, the show’s theme is a warm welcome home to two of the main acts, Chik Aljoy who is based in South Africa and Ckanyiso Dat Guy based in Harare — funny ace men who have been plying their trade outside of Bulawayo.

One of the organisers of the event Ms Mo said that they are super excited to be hosting such a high profile comedy event meant to light up the festive season.

“We are super excited to be hosting this event where we host award-winning comedians. The event promises to be the major highlight of the festive season as we managed to bring all the comedy talents on board so as to provide quality entertainment and diversity to comedy lovers.

“Diasporans are back at home for the holidays and with this laid back event, we want to welcome them with open arms, and we promise a very warm and funny show,” said Ms Mo.

Gen Lesley

General Lesley who will take to the stage, promised a polished act that will crack revellers’ ribs as his display with touch on social, economic and a bit of political issues that are daily discourses in Zimbabwe and beyond.

“I feel like comedy is the only instrument that I can use to talk about things happening around me and every human being such as tribal conflicts, political and religious conflicts.

“I can send a message in a humorous way, but it will reach the hearts of those I intend to send the message to and stay there forever. My sets will mainly focus on religious issues, and I’m excited to share my perspective on these thematic concerns with the audience,” said Gen Lesley.

Zwe Hlabangana who won the Outstanding Comedian award at the 2021 Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAAs), said it has been a while since he staged a performance in the City of Kings and he is looking forward to having fun with the audience.
