Zera issues safety guidelines for LPG usage in homes

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has issued a statement to promote the safe usage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in households.
The guidelines were issued in light of increasing reports of accidents related to improper handling of LPG appliances.
In a recent statement, Zera emphasised the importance of adhering to safety measures when using LPG for cooking.
โ€œIt is essential for users to ensure that all connections between the cooker and the gas cylinder are secure and leak-free,โ€ Zera said.
โ€œUsers should ensure all knobs are closed, turn on the cylinder valve, and check for leaks. By pressing the ignition knob, the flame should ignite immediately.
โ€œBefore igniting any appliance, check for gas leaks by using a soap leak test or through olfactory detection methods.
โ€œDo not leave boiling pots unattended. Spills can extinguish flames and lead to the accumulation of unburnt gas, posing serious risks,โ€ Zera said.
