Zimbabwe is set to host a Fish Fair aimed at boosting fish consumption and strengthening the country’s aquaculture sector.

The Fish Fair, organised under the FISH4ACP project, will feature exhibitions by fish farmers, retailers and suppliers, alongside cook-off competitions and free fish tastings.

Interactive games and quizzes centered on fish and fish production will also be on offer, with small prize packs to keep the excitement flowing.

In a statement, the organisers said the fair was inclusive and multi-faceted.

“The Fish Fair is aimed at promoting fish consumption in the country while fueling business synergy in fish farming, providing a learning platform, and promoting awareness of the sector,” reads the statement.

“It will be an opportunity for all tilapia value chain actors to showcase their products and services, a learning platform for the public, and a platform for industry players to come together to discuss, share concerns, and interact with the Government through line ministries.”

Dignitaries presiding over the event will include representatives from the Government, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the European Union.

The fair will bring together key stakeholders in the tilapia value chain including small-scale farmers, equipment suppliers and financial service providers.

Organised with funding from the European Union and Germany’s BMZ, the event reflects the broader goals of FISH4ACP, an initiative by the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) to ensure sustainable fisheries and aquaculture across these regions.
