Zimbabwe yesterday joined the rest of the world in launching the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign.
The initiative seeks to galvanise national and global efforts to eliminate GBV through education, prevention, and survivor support.
Addressing a press conference to officially mark the beginning of the campaign, Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said addressing GBV is a collective effort.
โI want to encourage individuals, families, communities and the nation at large not to be spectators in the fight against GBV but to come together to raise awareness and establish initiatives that prevent it in their localities,โ she said.
This yearโs campaign is running under the theme โTowards 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls.โ
The national commemorations will take place in Mawabeni District, Matabeleland South, on Wednesday.
