Government promotes aquaculture

Theseus Shambare

Government and various stakeholders are set to converge at Mr Innocent Kazanhi’s homestead in Mudzi District to promote aquaculture as a sustainable and profitable venture for Zimbabwean farmers.

Mr Mark Tsabora, the District Agricultural Extension Officer, said Government is committed to supporting the growth of the aquaculture industry.

“This initiative aligns with the Government’s vision of transforming Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy by 2030. By promoting fish farming, we can improve food security, create jobs, and boost rural economies,” said Mr Tsabora.

Government is enabling farmers to adopt sustainable farming practices and increase productivity by increasing access to water and other resources.

By diversifying their income sources and reducing reliance on rain-fed agriculture, farmers can build resilience and adapt to changing climatic conditions. As Zimbabwe continues to grapple with the effects of climate change, aquaculture offers a promising solution.
