The Zimbabwe Council of Copyrights is set to host its second annual general meeting (AGM) at Munhumutapa Hall in Gweru this Saturday.

The event will bring together key stakeholders from the music industry to discuss the council’s progress and future plans.

Top on the agenda is the election of a new board to ensure the smooth running of the organisation.
The council’s chief executive officer Mr Tafadzwa Masembura said members have the option to either endorse the existing board or elect new members.

“This year, we are hosting our AGM in Gweru to facilitate attendance from members across the country,” he said.

“Our members will have a chance to choose nine board members who will lead them in the coming year.

“They can endorse the existing board or re-elect some members and remove those they feel are not executing their duties well.”

The current board is led by sungura musician Tindo Chiraya, who has been at the forefront of advocating for musicians’ welfare.

The AGM will address several critical issues, including efforts to combat piracy and initiatives to support musicians’ financial stability.

The council has been actively working to empower musicians through income-generating projects.

Additionally, members have benefited from funeral policies and medical aid schemes that cover musicians and their families, addressing the financial struggles faced by many yesteryear artists.
