ZRP, security companies share notes

Freeman Razemba

The acting officer-in-charge of CID Homicide Detective Inspector Anele Mkandla has said the purpose of the meeting is to share notes on armed robbery prevention strategies.

โ€œThis meeting aims to enhance cooperation between the police and security stakeholders to improve reaction to crimes,โ€ he said.

โ€œCID Homicide is a specialised section with mandates to investigate, detect, and prevent cases of armed robbery, murder, kidnapping, and any case where perpetrators use violence in the commission of crimes. There has been an upsurge in house and business premises robberies.

“Most business premises are manned by security guards. Some premises have alarm systems that are operated by security companies.

โ€œSadly, security companies have been hit by armed robbers. We are cornered by these cases.

โ€œWe have several cases where reaction security teams were captured and disarmed by robbers. The stolen service pistols are used in the commission of other robberies.โ€

He narrated recent armed robbery cases that occurred countrywide where large amounts of cash were stolen.
