A 57-YEAR-OLD man from Mthoniselwa Village in Sesemba area, Nkayi, Matabeleland North Province appeared in court for allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl.
Zwelabo Ncube appeared before Tredgold Courts Regional Magistrate Vivian Ndlovu facing a rape charge and pleaded not guilty.
He was remanded in custody to 3 February for trial.
A court heard that Zwelabo Ncube (57) spotted the teen heading to the shops and swooped on her. He allegedly grabbed her by the hand and dragged her to a bushy area.
It is said he threatened to kill her if she screamed.
Fearing for her life, the minor clammed up.
He violently pushed her to the ground and sexually attacked her without a condom, the court heard.
After the ordeal Ncube allegedly threatened to assault the girl if she told anyone about the ordeal.
The matter came to light after a neighbour who is a cross-border trader noticed that the minor had a bun in her oven as her tummy was bulging.
The trader quizzed her and she eventually revealed that Ncube raped her.
Instead of returning home the teenager stayed for some days at the cross-border trader’s home and her parents got worried, the court heard.
Her stepfather followed her and he was told that his daughter was bulging with his neighbour’s seed. The stepdad returned home with the minor and told his wife that the child was pregnant. Her mother asked her about pregnancy and she admitted that she was pregnant.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest. Taboka Nyathi of Makiya and Partners legally represented Ncube.
