Sultry Sha Sha takes amapiano to international stage

Mutare born and Bulawayo bred multi-award-winning muso Sha Sha- real name Shamiso Mapimbiro- has been unveiled as part of the artistes who will perform at this year’s Afro Nation Festival inPortugal.

Sha Sha becomes the first Zimbabwean creative to be part of the internationally acclaimed three-day festival which will take place from 28 to 30 June at the Algarve, Portimão in Portugal.

Artistes performing on the main stage will include African Giant Burna Boy, 50 Cent, Booba, Asake, Aya Nakamura, Fireboy DML, Tayc Bnxn, Vegedream, Black Sheriff, Ayra Starr, Oxlade, The Compozer, Nelson Freitas, Gabzy, Sauti Sol, Soraia, Victony, MS Banks, Gyakie, Tyla, Nissi and Camidoh.

As a way of recognising the growth and influence AmaPiano had on the popular culture, the genre has been given a special “Piano Peoples’ stage” where Sha Sha will perform alongside Scorpion Kings (Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa).

Other Amapiano artistes who will grace the festival are Major League DJZ, Uncle Waffles, Musa Keys, Young Stunna, Daliwonga DBN Gogo, Vigro Deep, Moonchild Sanelly, Tyler ICU, Boohle, TXC, Pabi Cooper, Sha Sha, Charisse C, Nicky Summers and DJ Fistoz

From her base in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sha Sha who won the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards in 2020 said, it’s a dream come true for her to share the stage with some of international greats.

“Being part of this year’s edition of the Afro Nation Festival is a sign of growth both for me and the AmaPiano genre. This year around, AmaPiano have been given a special stage where we will be taking people through the journey of the genre as well as letting them create memories with us,” said Sha Sha.

Afro Nation is an annual three-day music festival produced by Live Nation, Event Horizon, Smade Entertainment, and Memories of Tomorrow.

The festival was founded by Obi Asika, and Smade, in association with BBC 1Xtra, in 2013.

The platform was established to bring together the best African artistes in Afrobeats, Hip Hop, RnB, Dancehall, Amapiano, Afro House and more.

The festival was nominated in the Best Overseas Festival category at the 2019 UK Festival Awards.

Other editions of the Afro Nation festival have been held in the United States of America, Ghana, Puerto Rico and Mexico,
