The Government has emphasised that local authorities should work in unison to help the country attain its national aspirations.
Addressing councillors to mark the end of a three-day workshop organised by the Chitepo School of Ideology to inspire the spirit of patriotism in local authorities to improve service delivery, Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe underlined the need for unity among council leaders.

The workshop was attended by more than 1 300 councillors drawn from Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland East, West and Central Provinves.

โ€œUnity takes us to the next level, you must know that as a united people, we will be able to develop economically and teach our children and grandchildren what Zimbabwe means to its people,โ€ he said.

โ€œWe might have shouted at each other during election time, but that must not take centre stage in our lives.โ€

โ€œRegardless of where we are coming from as politicians, we are Zimbabweans first.

โ€œWe are indivisible, and we will forever safeguard our nation from any machinations that want to destabilise us. Unity is the glue that bind people together and ensure that we are aligned to the aspirations of Vision 2030.โ€

Minister Garwe said the programme is critical in improving the performance of local authorities countrywide.

โ€œThe programme will improve service delivery in your respective local authorities. Vision 2030 guides all Government programmes. It requires local authorities who are selfless and are guided by the spirit of patriotism which calls for dedication and integrity,โ€ said Minister Garwe.

โ€œAs councillors and management, we can turn around the fortunes of our local authorities and the country’s economy. Our role affects every citizen’s life.

โ€œWe must put Zimbabwe first and safeguard its national interest. This is the only country that God gave us,โ€ he said.
