FOUR robbers who were armed with machetes raided a financial institution in Mumvuri, Shurugwi, and got away with close to US$5 000 and R24 000.
The robbers first attacked a security guard who was manning the premises before stealing the cash. They also broke into a shop and stole an additional US$1 000.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
โThe ZRP is investigating a case of robbery that occurred on October 19, 2024, at around 2 am,โ he said.
โFour male suspects who were armed with machetes and an axe pounced on a financial institution in Shurugwi where they attacked a security guard who was manning the premises.
โThey broke into the offices and stole US$5 010 and R23 900 before breaking into a wholesale shop and stealing US$1 085 from a metal box.
โThe suspects also broke into an agro-chemical shop where they attacked the occupant and stole US$30 and a Huawei P30 cellphone. Anyone with information that might assist with investigations can contact the nearest police station.โ
