“Sanctions led to inward-looking and domesticated intervention measures”

Zanu PF Manicaland Province says the illegal sanctions imposed on the country by the United States of America and its Western allies have taught Zimbabweans to look inwards and domesticate intervention measures to wade off the effects of the embargoes.

In a statement to mark the Sadc-initiated Anti Sanctions Day which is commemorated on October 25 every year, Zanu PF Manicaland secretary for information and publicity, Cde Sam Matema said they will continue to call for the unconditional removal of the sanctions and support President Mnangagwa’s efforts to denounce them.

“The provincial leadership of Manicaland has always condemned sanctions for both their illegality and eco-socio-political impact,” said Cde Matema who is also Buhera Central Member of Parliament.

“However, they have taught us to look inward and domesticate interventions and solutions. We will continue to support efforts by the Executive and senior party leadership under the direction of the President and First Secretary of the revolutionary party Zanu PF, Dr ED Mnangagwa, with respect to the challenges brought about by the illegal sanctions.

“We celebrate the regional solidarity regarding the same, and as the current chair of the regional bloc, Sadc, we will amplify our voice to the whole world so that the sanctions are removed without conditions.”

President Mnangagwa, who is the Sadc chairperson, is expected to deliver a keynote address on Friday in Bulawayo to mark the Anti-Sanction Day.

Zanu PF Politburo members led the way on Tuesday by signing an anti-sanctions petition whose objective is to mobilise one million signatures that will be delivered to the United States Embassy in Harare.
