THE State has revealed that it has extracted some videos from the mobile phone of Old Mutual business development manager, Musa Nyasha Dube Manyika, who is facing two counts of raping a University of Zimbabwe student, including once in his car.
The videos will be used by prosecutors in his rape trial.
Manyika, who is facing charges of raping a University of Zimbabwe student on the Old Mutual Scholarship, appeared before magistrate Estere Chivasa yesterday.
He is accused of blackmailing the student by threatening to drop her from her scholarship if she revealed the rape attacks.
The trial couldn’t get underway as planned because prosecutor Chido Gohori told the court that investigators had managed to extract videos from the complainant’s phone, which the State believe will be helpful to their case.
As such, she was obligated to serve Manyika’s lawyers with the videos before the trial gets underway.
Allegations are that in November 2022, Manyika sent a WhatsApp message asking the complainant to assist him to pack some banners at Old Mutual Gardens.
He allegedly picked up the complainant from the University of Zimbabwe campus and drove to Old Mutual Gardens.
Upon arrival, the State claims, Manyika took the student to his office where he raped her.
Afterwards, he apologised and allegedly gave her a branded T-shirt, a juice bottle and a cap.
He allegedly threatened the complainant not to disclose the matter to anyone as he would withdraw the scholarship from her.
The second incident allegedly occurred on June 19 last year when Manyika called the student after work, requesting to discuss her career.
The complainant met Manyika at Ashbrittle Shops in his car.
After the conversation, he offered to drive the student home and instead of stopping at the gate of her home, Manyika drove into Belfast Road and turned immediately right then stopped.
The State claims he adjusted the passenger seat, where the complainant was seated, removed her trousers then raped her once again.
He drove her to her home afterwards and, once again, asked for forgiveness.
The trial will start on February 3.
