TWINS Association of Zimbabwe leaders’ visit in Malawi has attracted the attention of the Malawian media.

Today, Farai Lawyer Katonha and Tendai Mayor Katonha, who are the regional twin and multiple birth leaders, accompanied by TAZI presidents Wellington and Washington Mbiwa, will be interviewed by the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation and Zodiak Broadcasting Service, a private media organisation.

The Katonha and Mbiwa identical twins have drawn the attention of television and radio stations while some churches have also invited them.

“We are happy for the positive response we have received from the local media,” said the Katonha twins.

“Our message is clear that the challenges being faced by twins in Malawi are the same as the challenges faced within the region, hence the need for us to unite and address these challenges.

“In twins, we see God’s mystery in giving multiple births in the world.

“We realised that a number of churches have not been addressing concerns of twins seriously.

“We are encouraging unity among twins and multiple births.

“We do not want mothers of multiple births to die while giving birth.

“A number of multiple birth mothers need help in the form of food supplements, access to education and empowerment.

“We are having an awareness campaign, as regional leaders, to urge church leaders, captains of industries and individuals to assist mothers of multiple birth.

“A number of men have been dumping their wives over multiple births, running away from responsibility.

“We are also fighting drug and substance abuse among twins and multiple births.”

The Katonha and Mbiwa twins said in a joint statement:

“We urge parents and guardians of multiple births to avoid celebrating one twin for excelling better than the other on academics because it causes enmity among themselves.

“The correct judgment in such issues is that they have all failed since the other one did not help his or her twin to come up with better results.”
