Skincare brand gives back to the community

Taboka Tshuma, Sunday Life Reporter

GROWING up, 26-year-old Busisiwe Sikhatazile Moyo witnessed many girls and women struggling to maintain glowing, smooth skin. This experience inspired her journey into the skincare industry and her commitment to giving back to the community.

She is now the CEO of Busisiwe Skincare and she recently partnered with organisations like Action for Empowerment Zimbabwe to donate sanitary and toiletry products to local schools bringing hope and dignity to countless young girls.

Busi, as she is affectionately known, has established herself as an entrepreneur dedicated to philanthropy.

As the face and CEO of Busisiwe Skincare also known as Glow Balm Skincare she has garnered a reputation for excellence in the skincare industry.

Originally from Zhombe Rural, Busi spent her formative years with her grandparents before moving to Harare and then Kwekwe where she attended several schools.

Despite facing challenges including frequent school changes, Busi persevered and completed her O and A-levels at Rio Tinto Zhombe High School.

She later pursued a degree in Politics and Public Administration at Great Zimbabwe University. In an interview with Sunday Life, she shared how her journey into skincare was shaped by her own experiences with her skin tone. Fascinated by her complexion and motivated to maintain its flawlessness despite challenges like puberty pimples and childhood scars, she often received compliments and inquiries about her skincare routine, fuelling her entrepreneurial spirit.

Busi credits her grandmother as her biggest supporter, who encouraged her to pursue a career in skincare. Initially drawn to politics, she ultimately carved a niche for herself in the skincare industry.

Busi explained her drive to give back to the community: โ€œAs a woman, I understand the struggle of lacking sanitary pads. I wanted to alleviate this burden for girl children. As a business owner, I believe itโ€™s essential to give back to the community especially when it resonates with me personally.โ€

The beneficiaries of Busiโ€™s generous donation included students from several local schools such as Runyararo Primary School. The students received essential sanitary and toiletry products through a collaborative effort, with partners providing food while Busisiwe Skincare contributed the hygiene items.

โ€œThis donation is more than just a corporate social responsibility initiative; it reflects my brand’s values. At Busisiwe Skincare, we focus on self-care, self-love, hygiene and sanitation. Our mission aligns with our donations, as we believe that taking care of oneโ€™s personal hygiene is essential. We are committed to helping our community achieve this,โ€ she emphasised.

Busi also expressed her desire to expand her philanthropic efforts, revealing that Busisiwe Skincare is working on a collaboration with Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) to provide sanitary products to female inmates monthly.
