Scottland beat SA side to Chikuhwa

MEGA RICH PSL new boys Scottland have beat South Africa’s Premiership side Magesi to the signature of top striker Lynoth Chikuhwa.

The Harare side has also signed former Highlanders defence stalwart Peter Muduhwa, and is also now home to former Highlanders Chief Executive Officer Ronald Moyo and Bulawayo Chiefs social media guru Javas Sibanda.

The 2024/ 25 season Carling Knockout Cup winners, Magesi FC were reported to be targeting the services of Zimbabwe’s 2024 Golden Boot winner. Chikuhwa of Highlanders FC won Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Golden Boot after scoring 17 goals. In addition to the Golden Boot, Chikuhwa was the second runner-up for the Player of the Season Award.

Former PSL star Walter Musona was the Player of the Season award winner, while former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs forward Khama Billiat emerged as the first runner-up.

It has emerged that Magesi FC were looking to beef up their attacking department with the goal-getter, Chikuhwa. Chikuhwa, whose contract with Highlanders FC ended on 31 December, was also linked with newly promoted Zimbabwean team Scottland FC, and eventually chose the Harare side, which has lured a number of big names including Musona and Billiat, and championship winning coach Tonderai Ndiraya.

Scottland are said to be paying salaries that are at par with what some South African club offer, hence some top local players have chosen to stay put at home.

A source close to FARPost, revealed that Magesi have been making relentless efforts to lure the striker even though Scottland had the upper hand. Magesi already have two Zimbabweans in their ranks, goalkeeper and captain Elvis Chipezeze and winger Edmore Chirambadare. The duo were instrumental as Magesi FC rose to be Carling Knockout Cup winners.

They were hoping to entice the 30-year-old marksman who previously played for Security Systems in

Botswana.— (farpost.co.za/Sports Reporter)
