South Africa controversial television show will be back on the screens on Sunday, 12 January.
The iconic reality series returns with Big Brother Mzansi Season 5 (BBM) and a new host, Smash Afrika, who will be replacing actor and presenter Lawrence Maleka.
Maleka hosted the South African spin-off show for three seasons.
Smash Afrika is known for his work in TV and radio, having notable experience on Y and as the host of Massive Music on Mzansi Magic and Channel O.
The 36-year-old from Bloemfontein in the Free State expressed his excitement for the new season’s return. He shared with the Daily Sun that he’s honoured to host this year’s show.
“I can’t wait for the season to begin; just four days to go. I can already feel the temperature rising,” he said.
He revealed that he learnt on his birthday, October 31, 2024, that he’ll be hosting the show.
“I never thought I’d host it, but I considered entering it,” he said.
Smash Afrika said he’ll bring something different to the show.
“One thing about me is that I have energy, wit, and charisma. You must tune in every Sunday at 6pm on Mzansi Magic to experience it on the live show,” he said.
Having been in the industry for over a decade, he spoke about encountering various challenges.
“Nothing yet, and I hope it stays that way. Life has its ups and downs, but our focus should be on getting up when we are knocked down or when we trip and fall.
“I remember why I love entertaining and inspiring people; that has kept me grounded and focused on my purpose in the industry,” he said.
Last year, BBM season 4 opened doors in the entertainment industry for many housemates.
Now, Mzansi will be introduced to new personalities who will capture the audience’s attention. —(www.snl24.com)
