Beitbridge Municipality has closed Dulivhadzimu Stadium, which hosts most of the town’s major activities, for renovations.
Some of the major activities that are held at the stadium include the annual Beitbridge Expo and home matches for Division one sides, Dulivhadzimu FC and Beitbridge FC.
Besides having aging infrastructure, the stadium which is located in a low-lying area is perennially affected by flash floods.
In a public notice, the local authority said on Tuesday that the stadium will be closed from January 6 until further notice.
The closure of the stadium will see the community relying on Ronnie’s Sports arena some 7km north of the border town along the Beitbridge to Masvingo road.
“We hereby notify the community of the temporary closure if Dulivhadzimu stadium as from January 6, 2025 on an off-season annual shutdown to pave way for rehabilitation works,” said the municipality.
“During this period, the stadium shall not be available for any sporting activities and events until further notice.

“The municipality is therefore requesting the community of Beitbridge to bear with us as the works commences towards making the facility ready for use before the 2025 Division One soccer season kick off”.
Plans are also in the pipeline for local authority to construct a modern stadium on higher ground and accommodate the town’s rapid population and infrastructure expansion.
