ABANDONED SPOUSE REFUSES TO SHARE PROPERTY WITH ERRANT HUBBY

Chipo Mukorama

A MAN, who abandoned his family 12 years ago, has returned and is now demanding a share of the property acquired by his wife during his absence.

Joseph Mavire abandoned his wife, Tambudzai Zhohwa, and his family, and relocated to Mozambique.

He has now dragged Zhohwa to court, claiming he is entitled to a share of the property, including a house, car, and shop.

“I want the court to help me get a share of the property my wife acquired since we never got a divorce.

“I also want compensation for my destroyed cabin, which she is using as a parking spot.”

However, Zhohwa opposed his claims, arguing that he forfeited his rights as a husband and father by abandoning his family.

“He abandoned us for 12 years, leaving us to suffer.

“He never sent money to support his children and now wants to benefit from my hard work.

“I will not let him take away what I have worked so hard to achieve.

“My children and I deserve better than a man who abandoned us in our time of need.”

Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted Mavire a protection order and advised the two to take their case to an appropriate court .
