Lovemore Dube
FORMER Highlanders chairman, Josiah Dube, who died at his Inyathi home on Friday morning, will be buried tomorrow.
He was 87.
Josiah died at his Inyathi Centre home according to family spokesperson Elkanah Dube, who is also a Highlanders board member.
Dube was chairman at Highlanders from 1988 and should have served up to January 1990.
He was called alongside his whole executive in 1989, a year Bosso struggled in the then Super League after the departure of some key players.
With a hugely young side, new arrival, coach Roy Barreto was able to take the club to the Castle (FA) Cup where the team was beaten 4-2 by Dynamos.
It is the year Alexander Maseko and Simon Ncube left, a trusted centreback pairing that had been the heartbeat of the Africa Day, Independence, Heroes, Rothmans and Castle Cup winning side of 1988.
Tito Paketh, Madinda Ndlovu and the late Willard Khumalo, all key members of the cup winning side of 1986-88 moved to regional league football in Germany with the duo of Rahman Gumbo and Mercedes Sibanda moving to Rainders in Denmark.
Peter Nkomo was injured for the better part of the campaign leaving an inexperienced side.
Bosso survived relegation largely due to the exploits of younger players Thulani Gumede, Peter Ndlovu, Makwinji Soma-Phiri, Nkosana Sibanda and Cleopas Dlodlo.
Elkanah said the body of Dube will leave Bulawayo today for Inyathi where it will lie in state.
Tomorrow morning there is going to be a church service at Inyathi Mission followed by burial at the institution and community’s Emhlangeni Cemetery.
