ZRP denies social media reports

Crime Reporter
Police has dismissed social media reports that have been alleging that the former Commissioner General Tandabantu Godwin Matanga had reported for work on Thursday in police uniform while claiming that he was not served with a letter of dismissal.
According to police, the post was totally false and should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves.
Last month, President Mnangagwa appointed Deputy Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba as Commissioner General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police following the retirement of Commissioner General Matanga.
The appointment is with effect from January 1, 2025.
However, social media claimed Retired Comm Gen Matanga had defiantly showed up at the Police General Headquarters while wearing a police uniform and claiming that there had not been any official communication.
In a statement, police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police dismisses social media postings attributed to COZWA and other sites alleging that Retired Commissioner-General of Police Tandabantu Godwin Matanga reported to his office today (yesterday) in police uniform claiming that he was not served with a letter of dismissal.
“The post is totally false and should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves. The new Commissioner-General of Police Stephen Mutamba has effectively taken the full command of the Zimbabwe Republic Police in its entirety with no hurdles. Contrary to the allegations, there is no Support Unit, Romeo Troop on standby. The Zimbabwe Republic Police cautions individuals and groups trying to sow discord in the organization that decisive criminal action will be taken for the law to take its course.”
Meanwhile, a hand over and takeover ceremony has since been conducted this Friday at Mkushi Police Academy between the outgoing and the incoming Commissioner General of Police.
