GOVERNMENT, with support from the Global Fund, has donated 13 vehicles to the Ministry of Health and Child Care in Matabeleland North, in a development set to improve the delivery of quality healthcare services in the province.
This initiative aligns with the Government’s Health for All by 2025 policy, which emphasises equitable access to healthcare across Zimbabwe. The Second Republic continues to prioritise the principle of leaving no one and no place behind, with the new vehicles set to bolster the province’s healthcare infrastructure by complementing existing ambulances and service vehicles.
The donation, comprising eight Land Cruisers and five Hilux single-cab vehicles, was officially handed over to Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Richard Moyo.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister Moyo expressed gratitude for the timely gesture, describing it as a valuable Christmas gift for the province.
“We want to thank His Excellency, President Mnangagwa. Since the advent of the Second Republic, Matabeleland North has received six to eight ambulances, and now we are adding 13 more vehicles to our fleet. This will significantly enhance our ability to deliver health services to our communities,” he said.
Minister Moyo said the Government remains committed to improving healthcare services as part of its Vision 2030 agenda, which seeks to establish Zimbabwe as an upper-middle-income economy.
Quality healthcare is a key pillar of this vision, with efforts focused on building and upgrading healthcare facilities nationwide.
Matabeleland North Provincial Medical Director, Dr Admire Kuretu, highlighted the importance of the vehicles in addressing the province’s health needs.
He said vehicles will be used for HIV, Malaria and TB control activities among other duties.
“These vehicles, provided by the Government with support from the Global Fund are greatly appreciated. Minister Moyo has been instrumental in advocating for improved transport resources in the province,” said Dr Kuretu.
“Of the 13 vehicles allocated, we have so far received eight. These will support our efforts in controlling HIV, Malaria and TB, as well as other essential healthcare activities. Our fleet had become old and costly to maintain,so these new vehicles will undoubtedly improve service delivery.”
Dr Kuretu said each of the province’s seven districts will receive a Land Cruiser, given their suitability for Matabeleland North’s challenging terrain.
He said the donation underscores the Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and achieving its goals under the Health for All by 2025 framework. — @SikhulekelaniM
