A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Gwese Line Village in Tsholotsho District appeared in court yesterday facing charges of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his neighbour five times during an argument.
Edward Ncube who appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate, Mr Matthew Mutiro, was remanded in custody to January 6.
The court heard that Ncube allegedly stabbed Mr Bhathi Moyo with a knife , accusing him of not responding when he greeted him.
In his defence, Ncube claimed he acted in self-defence, alleging that Mr Moyo had attacked him.
Prosecuting, Ms Tarisai Mutarisi told the court that on October 6, at around 5 pm, Mr Moyo and Ncube met at Mekeleli Bottle Store where they started drinking beer.
“A misunderstanding ensued between the two when Ncube accused Mr Moyo of not responding to his greeting. Ncube then slapped Mr Moyo several times before being restrained by other patrons,” said Ms Mutarisi.
The court heard that around 8 PM, Mr Moyo left the bar and went home. While penning his goats at his homestead, Ncube allegedly emerged, grabbed him and stabbed him five times on the chest, head and thigh.
Mr Moyo who collapsed after the attack, which resulted in him sustaining serious injuries, was rushed to hospital. The matter was reported to the police, leading to Ncube’s arrest.
