FORMER Highlanders and FC Platinum forward Thomas Chideu admits he is homesick and wants to play in the domestic Premiership next season.

The 28-year-old is currently unattached after the expiry of his contract with Clube Ferroviario da Beira from Mozambique.

He netted eight times in 14 fixtures during his brief stint with the 2023 champions.

The giant forward left the country exactly nine years ago when he made his first foreign league breakthrough after impressing the now-collapsed South Africa’s Ajax Cape Town.

Chideu also played for Golden Arrows in Mzansi before moving to Zambia, where he featured for Forest Rangers and Power Dynamos.

Locally, Chideu has been signed by Bosso, FC Platinum and Harare City.

But he has never lasted for over six months with all the local teams he has played for.

He left the Sunshine Boys without kicking a ball in 2021 after impressing Forest Rangers during the CHAN tournament.

Chideu also won the 2019 Castle Lager Premiership championship with FC Platinum.

“I have spent the better part of my career playing outside the country. It is something that makes me feel good because it is not easy to play in a foreign land.

“You have to be at your best all the time, and naturally, you’re restricted to being seen at some places when the team is performing badly. This also helps you to restrict yourself from unnecessary distractions, and it is a blessing in disguise.

“But, you get to a point where you start thinking about playing at home. And that has been my wish for next season: to play a full season in the Castle Lager Premiership. Even if another foreign team comes before I make the move. I will be hurt if I fail to get the chance to play a full season in the domestic league,” said Chideu.

Simba Bhora, Scottland, and TelOne are said to be leading the chase for Chideu’s signature. But Dynamos coach Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe is also believed to be an admirer of the Highfield-born hitman. And, Chideu might be on his way to DeMbare if Chigowe can convince the gangly forward to join the Glamour Boys using his Highfield connections.
