Army probes barracks fire

Investigations are underway to establish the cause of the fire that broke out at the Zimbabwe National Army Headquarters administrative complex at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks along Liberation Legacy Way in Harare, in the early hours of yesterday.

The cause of the fire, which reportedly started at around 2.50am, is yet to be ascertained. 

There were no casualties.

In a statement yesterday, director ZNA public relations Colonel Alphios Makotore said: “We regret to inform the public that fire has broken out at Army Headquarters administrative complex located at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly KGVI, resulting in extensive damage of some the offices at the complex.”

Col Makotore said firefighters managed to contain the fire. 

“Firefighters were dispatched to assist in dousing the blaze. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze. No reported casualties at the barracks.”

Col Makotore said investigations into the cause of the fire will soon be launched, adding that details will be provided as more information becomes available.
