A THREE-MEMBER gang that was driving a Honda Fit raided a local fast-food outlet before pointing a gun at the shop manager and getting away with almost US$1 000 and two cellphones.
A source close to the incident said the robbery happened at Chicken Inn situated at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre shortly after 11.40pm on Tuesday and was reported to the police.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a robbery incident that occurred at a food outlet situated at ZITF. Anyone with any kind of information that could lead to the arrest of the three robbers may kindly supply us with information about their whereabouts or contact any nearest police station,” he said.
While the cleaner (name supplied) was outside the food outlet a Honda Fit pulled up and stopped near her.
“The car had a driver and two occupants. One of the male passengers got out of the car wielding a pistol and pointed it at the cleaner. He then force-marched her to the office where there was the manager, four cashiers and a security guard,” the source said.
The source added: “They pointed a gun at them while ordering them to lie on the floor and demanding cash. The manager surrendered US$998,66 and two cellphones before they fled in their getaway car.”
The security guard later pressed the panic button to alert the response team from his company.
The response team came after a few minutes together with the police who discovered an empty cartridge at the scene.
