VETERAN Sungura musician Alick Macheso is set to make a comeback in Bulawayo as he will be a headlining act at the Elite Summer Party slated for 4 November at Palace Hotel which has proven to be the home of entertainment lately.
Baba Shero, as Macheso is affectionately known, will be supported by his band Orchestra Mberikwazvo, Mr Grey and Sungura Masters with DJs Keitho, Mandoza, Banda and Ajaxx on the decks.
Macheso is on a search to find a new home in the city of Kings, considering how his previous gigs in the city turned out.
In Bulawayo, The Amphitheatre was known as Macheso’s home venue as every gig he staged at the venue was always sold out.
However, after Khumalo and Suburbs residents complained of the “noise” that was associated with Macheso’ gigs, he had to find other for host his gigs in the city.
Macheso would then adopt venues like Mzilikazi beer garden, Eyardini Park as well as The Parkview, but all the gigs held at these places didn’t give his fans the real taste and stage energy of the Sungura maestro.
Palace Hotel proprietor Tapiwa Gandiwa who is also the promoter of the show said after a long wait, patrons will have a chance to dance and have fun with Macheso.
He said Palace was strategic such that it always had cosmopolitan clients and most of them could resonate with Alick Macheso’s music, something which will make the legend feel at home.
“We have been hosting a number of top profile artistes at Palace from Killer T, Clement Magwaza, Insimbi zeZhwane, Leonard Zhakata among others, and we felt it was high time we host Baba Shero.
“He is a legend of the game and we are hosting him because of public demand and special requests from our patrons. Palace has been home to many creatives, and with Macheso seeking a home in Bulawayo, we hope he will love The Palace because it’s his home too.
“Of course, he has performed in different venues in Bulawayo, but with this show, we want to be different from other venues. We have beefed up our security at the gate as well as on parking bays meaning the gig will be friendly and safe to anyone who wants to listen to Macheso’s music,” said Gandiwa.
