A man from Sun-Yet-Sen in Matabeleland South province must be regretting why he beat up his love rival for proposing love to his lover after he appeared in court and was sentenced to perform 210 hours of community service.

Talent Nyathi (32) appeared before Kezi resident magistrate Busani Sibanda facing an assault charge.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 12 months in jail of which six months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within a period of five years.

The remaining six months were further suspended on condition that Nyathi performs 210 hours of community service at Tudi 1 Primary School.

In coming up with the sentence the magistrate considered that Nyathi had paid for his love rival Mandlenkosi Moyo (35)โ€™s medical expenses.

The court heard that Nyathi bumped into Moyo while proposing love to his girlfriend and that did not go down well with him.

Nyathi then accused him of disrespecting him.

It is said in a fit of rage Nyathi insulted Moyo before he kicked him all over the body causing him to bleed from the mouth.

After assaulting him Nyathi fled leaving Moyo lying on the ground.

Moyo was later ferried to hospital by his neighbour.

The incident was reported to the police leading to Nyathiโ€™s arrest.
