Palace plays host to Uhuru singles pool tourney

BULAWAYO’S Palace Hotel will tomorrow play host to Bulawayo Province Pool Association’s (BPPA) Independence singles tournament where 64 participants are expected.

According to BBPA publicity secretary Osbornewells Dziko registration fee is pegged at US$5 per player for a contest that will start at 11am.

“We are looking forward to having 64 players in the Independence Cup competition. Each player will pay a registration fee of US$5 and the playing format is going to be a race to two in the preliminary stages. The format will change to race to three from the quarter final stages,” said Dziko.

The player who will conquer all will go home with US$200.

Renowned local pool players that include seasoned Paul “Macheso” Mutizo, Donald Wadawu and Fortune Tawengwa , Darlington Dziko and Dumisani “Di Maria” Marira are some of the participants that are expected to take their favourite hunting cue sticks to Palace Hotel for the Uhuru meet.

Meanwhile, the local Central Business Pool League will tomorrow also have an Independence Day singles tournament that will be staged at three venues Joynite, Nokkies and Golden Pillars.

All players registered with CBD clubs are eligible to play in the competition where each player will pay a registration fee of US$3.

Playing format will be a race to two.

First prize is US$200 and the players that will finish as first and second runners up will get US$100 and US$70 respectively.

The fourth and fifth-placed players will pocket US$50 and US$30 respectively. A player that will finish with more scores based on the score aggregate will get a bonus prize of a golden stick.
