A WOMAN from Shurugwi in Midlands province was left nursing injuries and counting her losses after she was attacked with an iron rod on the head by robbers who allegedly stripped her naked before they took her US$200.
The incident was confirmed by Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
Insp Mahoko appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the robbers.
Insp Mahoko strongly discouraged members of the public from boarding unregistered vehicles saying they were risky as they were mostly used by criminals in carrying out their activities.
โWe are appealing for information which could lead to the arrest of the four suspects who are on the run. Anyone who could have information may phone any nearest police station and give them a tip-off,โ he said.
A source close to the incident said the woman boarded a Honda Fit which had four male occupants including the driver at Cathedral bus stop intending to go to Shurugwi.
After the driver drove for a few metres, he pulled off the road and parked the car.
While the woman was wondering what was going on, one of the male occupants severely hit her on the head with an iron rod causing her to fall on the front seat,โ said the source.
โAfter that they took her handbag which contained clothes and US$200. They went on to strip her naked and they fled from the scene with her clothes,โ said the source.
The woman was ferried to Gweru General Hospital by a Good Samaritan and the incident was reported to the police.
