Xosti, Zola 7 and Vukani in collabo

Who doesn’t wish to collaborate with the great Kwaito kingpin Zola 7? Even for Cassper Nyovest, working with Mdlwembe on Bonginkosi and Hlengiwe songs, it was a dream fulfilled.

Joining some of the new age artistes to get Zola 7, real name Bonginkosi Dlamini, on his latest project is United Kingdom-based Gqom and Kwaito musician Xolani Tshongwe famously known as Xosti.

The two artistes, alongside another gem Vukani, collaborated on a song titled Skinny Jean which was produced at Criminal Records, which was supposed to be released today (31 March) but has been pushed for early April.

The song which was organically produced in South Africa will be launched with a music video which was shot by Slow Man.

Initially, the song was supposed to feature the late Mampintsha’s wife Babes Wodumo, but her busy schedule didn’t permit her commitment to the song.

Babes Wodumo

It then became a coincidence for Zola 7 to be on the song.
“When I was in South Africa a month ago, I had an intention of working with Babes Wodumo on this song as I also sent her the instrumental. However, I did not get her on the song because she was grieving and going through stuff.

“Besides that, she is also gearing up to release an album which will be complemented by his Birthday tour, so she couldn’t be committed to the project, something which I deeply understood.

“However, one day after a studio session with Vukani, we decided to visit Zola 7 at his house just for a few drinks. I played the instrumental of the song in the car, and Zola 7 came up with a catchy chorus and we then decided to join forces and do the joint,” said Xosti.

Of course, Xosti has worked with big names such as DJ Tira, Bulo, Rethabile Khumalo as well as Zanda Zakuza, but how much did he pay to get Zola 7 on the record?

“Zola jumped on the song for free, even most of the people I worked with before we did the songs for free. I think it is because of the good relations that I create with people everywhere I go.

“Besides I don’t believe in paying an artiste for a collaboration, we have to work together then share royalties because this is our song and we will definitely work hard for it to make us money that we will share on royalties and other copyright benefits,” said Xosti.
