Armed gang raids Mukuru outlet

A gang of raiders brandishing pistols burst into a Mukuru money transfer agency and pointed firearms at clients who were making transactions before robbing the agency of US$1 800,R7 800 and two cellphones.

The incident happened at Silobela in Midlands province yesterday in broad daylight.

A witness who watched the scary incident said a gang of six robbers queued at the money transfer pretending to make transactions and when it was their turn to enter the booth they sprung a shock.

โ€œIt was around 12.45pm when three of them (robbers) went inside the booth and waved their pistols threatening to shoot the clients and ordered them to lie down. They handcuffed the cashier and the security guard while demanding money and threatening to shoot them dead,โ€ said the witness.

The panic-stricken cashier surrendered cash to them.

โ€œThe cashier surrendered US$1 ย 800, R7 800 and two cellphones. They drove off at a high speed in their get-away car,โ€ said the source.

The incident was reported to the police who dashed to the scene but no arrests have been made.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of the six robbers.
