The family of Deborah Fraser is reportedly fighting over her unreleased last album with Universal Music, the record label of the late gospel singer.
Despite promising to release the late star’s last album, the music company failed to do so. According to Daily Sun, the late South African gospel musician’s family accuses the record label of not keeping its promises.
“We had a meeting with them after the funeral, and they promised to release her last album. Unfortunately, that was the last time we heard from them. We are now wondering if they’ll ever keep their promise. We’ve called them, emailed them asking about this album, but no one is responding.”
According to a report in the publication, Guardian Nontando Mafisa expressed frustration over a delay in the album’s release. The publication claims to have seen several emails that Nontando sent to the stable enquiring about the album.
In addition, Nkosana Fraser, Deborah Fraser’s son, reportedly expressed disappointment with the record label.
“I have never dealt with Universal Music directly, but Nontando has been communicating with them on our behalf. My mother worked very hard for that company. She loved that company, but it seems they have forgotten about her hard work . . . The main problem is the lack of communication from their side.
Deborah Fraser died on the 15th of May 2022 at the age of 56, at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, after suffering a stroke. Her health had been a source of concern since February 2022 when a video of her performing at an event while wheelchair bound surfaced.
News of her death was received by her family, colleagues, and fans with a lot of sadness and within no time, social media was abuzz with messages of condolences to the family she left behind and sweet tributes for Fraser.
A funeral service for the late veteran gospel singer was held on the 21st of May 2022 at the Station Venue in Durban where her friends and family paid their respects to her.
While speaking at the funeral service for their mother, Nkosana spoke of how much pain his mother endured leading up to her death.
“Everyone knew Ma. I’m not going to lie to you, Mom was not OK, especially this year. Death is not something you can get used to. I catch myself sitting in the car alone and realising it is real; Ma is gone,” he said.
In addition, he expressed gratitude for Deborah’s teachings, “Ma you can see the mark you’ve left in South Africa. You can see the effect of your death. You have done a lot for everyone. Anyone who was close to my mom’s heart knew it was filled with love. Ma, I would like to thank you for teaching me to be humble. I would like to thank you for teaching me not to look down on others. I want to thank you for everything you have done for me and the family.”
Aaliyah said even though she has lost her mother on earth, she gained a powerful guardian angel. “I may have lost a mother but I have gained a very powerful guardian angel. Thank you for everything. There was so much I wanted to still learn from you, but I thank God for what I have learned already. There was so much I still wanted to do for you,” she said. — Zalebs
