ZIMBABWE Cricket board chairman Tavengwa Mukhuhlani has been appointed Africa Cricket Association (ACA) vice chairman.
Mukuhlani, who is serving his four-year term as the ZC leader was also co-opted as a member of the International Cricket Council Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee by International Cricket Councilย ( ICC).
At ACA, Mukuhlani will deputise Kwame Asare of Ghana Cricket Association.
ACA is an international body which coordinates the development of cricket in Africa. The ACA was founded in 1997, and has 23 member countries with its headquarters in Benoni, South Africa.
The role of the ACA includes promoting the development of cricket in Africa and organising regional tournaments. These include the ACA Africa T20 Cup and the Africa Women Twenty20 Championships as well as intercontinental tournaments such as the Afro Asia Cup.
The role of the ACA is complementary to the ICC, which organises the regional qualifying tournaments for global events.
The inaugural annual general meeting of ACA was held in Harare in August 1997. The last Zone VI tournament was also held in 1997 and replaced by an Africa Cup open to countries from all around the continent.
Former Zimbabwe cricket boss Peter Chingoka was elected chairman of the ACA in 1998.
Mukuhlani also chairs the ICCโs Cricket Kenya Committee that has been helping Cricket Kenya in resolving its governance issues, including coming up with a new constitution.
ย He recently served on the ICC Audit Committee and chaired the ICC Membership Committee, while he has also been part of the ICC task force spearheading a bid for cricketโs inclusion in the Olympic Games from 2028 onwards.At the helm of ZC since 2015, Mukuhlani has overseen a turnaround that has brought financial stability to the organisation and is now steering cricket towards becoming Zimbabweโs number one sport.
