Planning for life after retirement

Raymond Jaravaza
EVERY worker wants to feel valued by their employer, especially after years of dedicated service, and former Warriors defender Onismor Bhasera is feeling the love at his club.

Bhasera is on the last lap of his football career with SuperSport United in South Africa and like any other footballer is weighing his options for life after retirement.

However, his club is already a step ahead of him in that regard.
SuperSport United have made a commitment to arm the veteran defender with coaching badges to enable him a smooth transition into his retirement days.

SuperSport United

Bhasera has spent close to a decade at SuperSport United since joining the team from Bidvest Wits in 2016.

And the clock is ticking for the defender to hang his boots.
“Bhasera our captain; 40 in the shade. The most committed guy. Over the Covid-19 lockdown he was number one in fitness training at his age and of course, everyone can see his legs are getting tired.

โ€œHe understands that his career is coming to an end. We are going to be upscaling him in terms of his coaching qualifications as we have done with many players in the past,โ€ are the sentiments of Stan Matthews, the SuperSport chief executive officer.

The club has in the past assisted former players such as Jabu Maluleke, Thabo September, Andre Arendse and Grant Johnson with high level coaching courses after they hung their boots.

Covid-19

โ€œBash (Bhasera) will be the next one to be upscaled in that area and maybe in the future weโ€™ll give him a chance to move into our academy or become a part of the club because he deserves it.

“He is a great role model and has a fantastic work ethic and looks after his body, lives a clean life, he represents everything that we see as positive in a human being and footballer.

“We are just not looking at the footballer and tossing him by the wayside.
“We are looking at the footballer and saying how can we add value to a guy who adds value to our club.

“We want to be able to leave them with something that says thank you for being loyal in a time when loyalty means nothing anymore,” concluded Matthews.
Loyalty is an aspect that has seen Bhasera give everything to the club that he has called home for the last eight years.
